Android tablets closing in on iPad

New York: Tablet computers using Google’s Android software narrowed the lead of Apple’s iPad on the global market in the fourth quarter, research firm Strategy Analytics said on Thursday.

Global tablet shipments reached an all-time high of 26.8 million units in the fourth quarter, growing 2-1/2 fold from 10.7 million a year earlier, the research firm said.

Mozilla releases Firefox 10 stable version

Mozilla has released Firefox 10 as a fully stable version available for download today. The latest iteration of the open source browser brings a number of minor changes that are mostly behind the scenes, since the big UI tweaks are being saved for version 12, says Engadget.

Highlighted on the change list is the new forward button that is now hidden until you first navigate backwards. It’s a small change but it makes since as there is nowhere to go once you are already at the most current page.

Apple updates Final Cut Pro X

Apple released the Final Cut Pro X v10.0.3, an update to its professional video editing application, which introduces multicam editing that is touted to automatically sync up to 64 angles of video and photos; advanced chroma keying for handling complex adjustments right in the app; and enhanced XML for a richer interchange with third party apps and plug-ins that support the fast growing Final Cut Pro X ecosystem.

The Final Cut Pro X v10.0.3, which is available as a free update from the Mac App Store, also includes a beta of broadcast monitoring that supports Thunderbolt devices as well as PCIe cards.

The Final Cut Pro X v10.0.3 is available from the Mac App Store for $299.99 (US) to new users.
